Emily Lake

In 1978 Emily started a flamework glass apprenticeship in the North Island, and was taught to make small sculptures out of 'lace' glass – a method that looks like glass knitting.

During the 1990's Emily developed a range of NZ inspired glass jewellery and finds great inspiration in nature for a lot of her work such as her Jellyfish Rockpools.

Over her many years of flameworking glass Emily has taught classes in New Zealand and internationally and continues to create glass pendants, jewellery and small sculptures.

Since 2010 Emily has also specialized in memorial glass jewellery using ash from cremation.

I am fascinated with fossils imbedded in amber, and have tried to recreate something similar in glass. These beads feature individually hand sculpted silver inclusions of various spiders and flies.
