Kim Logue

Kims’ work is strongly influenced by the natural world around her in particular New Zealand’s unique volcanic landscape and its distinctive native flora and fauna.

Logue’s interest in combining both traditional handcraft techniques along with experimental processes has lead to her making particularly innovative pieces using naturally occurring black volcanic glass, few artists worldwide have incorporated the obsidian medium into the casting and ceramic process. She mixes multiple mediums, glass, ceramic and metal to create and form innovative works.

Kim is inspired by the making process, working against the challenging aspects of using mixed media to capture forms, with movement, colour and texture. She aims to capture the essence of the land in which she lives.

Logue gained a degree in applied arts from NorthTec (2012), her inventive work has been accepted for several major art competitions including the Wallace Art Awards and Ranamok (Australia). She recently won the UNICUM 2018 Award, IV Ceramics Triennial UNICUM 2018 Metelkova, Slovenia and had her glass accepted for the International Biennale of Glass Sofia, Bulgaria.

Armament against Whitewalkers: From Paleolithic man flint knapping in Armenia 1.4 million years ago, to todays online gaming world of Minecraft and as dragon glass daggers in defence against Whitewalkers in the alternative universe of Westeros (295AC), Obsidian is considered the optimal medium. These daggers have been cast from Obsidian collected from ancient volcanic flows in Northland.
