Julie Beaumont

My day job is working in a small hairdressing cutting bar I own down by the river in Warkworth. I work a four day week which allows me to pursue my glass passion/addiction on the weekends. I started in glass fusing about 5 years ago after doing a workshop at Sauvarins, it wasn’t long before I got a kiln at home and started my journey in earnest. Coasters, bowls & wall art appeared in the house with requests/sales from friends and family .

Experimenting with large instalments made with Macrocarpa slabs, mounted on steel frames with glass inserts were my next project resulting in commissions. I then started experimenting with faces in different forms and they grew bigger and more abstract. I  entered work into the local exhibitions in 2021/2022 and work sold.

Colour and texture are my gig, so how that plays out shows in the variety of my work, from crackle to coral, sandblasted to glossy and monotone to vibrant colour.  There is not much you can’t do with glass and I have some big ideas for the future so watch this space!

I live with my partner in Warkworth, we both have our own studios and he is intrinsic to helping me develop my ideas.
