Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei and Auckland Council Public Art will appoint an artist or group of artists to deliver a new public artwork and streetscape design for Jean Batten Place, Auckland. 

We request an Expression of Interest (EOI) from an artist or artist groups whose practice recognises and celebrates diversity who wish to be considered for a permanent artwork commission.

This project has been selected to honour Jean Batten, Aotearoa’s pioneering aviator and feminist icon, after whom the street is named. The artist/ artist group will recognise her heroic accomplishments by expressing and celebrating diversity in Tāmaki Makaurau’s contemporary society.

The artwork/ streetscape design is funded by Centre City Targeted Rates and will be produced in conjunction with the upgrade of Jean Batten Place.
